Equipment You Need to Get Started Playing Electric Guitar
69What equipment will you need?
Hi, everyone. As you probably already know, I'm and avid guitar player. I have also taught several students an I find that the biggest stumbling block is not an inability to learn the basics, but with having poor equipment right out of the gate, which causes frustration and loss of interest.
The biggest mistake I see when people are purchasing guitar gear as a beginner is that they go for the cheapest guitar they can find and end up getting something that is poorly constructed so that it is much harder to play or breaks down after a little playing. I know from experience because I have done the same thing many times over. I guess I am just a sucker for a cheap guitar.
Some of the problems I have had are guitars that are made of particle board, which is no more than pressed sawdust, then covered with paint or wood veneer. The screws end up falling out of this type of guitar. Another problem is that some had hardware made out of pot metal which would break under the tension fo the strings. These guitars usually sounded good and played well at the start, so you have to really be careful to avoid these problems.
Even though there are a lot of these cheaply made guitars on the market, there are also a lot of well made electric guitars on the market. The Dean EVO is a good example. Another is the Squire Bullet. Both of these are a really good value for beginners, but the ones I have found that I like the best are the ones mad by Agile, Douglas, and SX.
They are made in the same plants in China and South Korea, by skilled craftsmen who cut the price by not having a famous brand name and shipping directly from the supplier in the USA.
The features and quality of these electric guitars are just unbeatable for the price...

There is also the matter of having the right accesories to get started quickly. A small but versatile amp is good. I recommend an inexpensive Line 6 or Fender GDec amp for beginners. They are versatile enough to be able to get them to sound like most any guitar hero, but are small and compact enough to not drive the neighbors crazy, (or do hearing damage...)
Also it is important to have a good strap that wont slip and let the guitar hit the floor, a decent cord, and probably an instuctiuonal video. This goes a long way to getting started playing right.
