How to find leads sources that work

Finding effective health insurance sales leads can be quite difficult if you are a new agent just getting started in the insurance business.  First, you don't know where to get them yet, and if you do find a source, you don't have any idea of their quality before you have to spend your money buying them.  The next problem you encounter is that many other agents you may work with get large referral credits from the lead companies that they use.  The problem with this is that they usually get first dibs on their leads, and you end up picking through their leftovers.  Not good.

Then there are the experienced agent who would never give out their best lead sources.  Why would they?  They don't need any more competiton, especially from newbies who don't haqve a clue.  So how can you find these better sources of leads that these experienced agents use?

If you want to serch on the internet, don't use broad terms, such as insurance leads, or auto insurance leads.  Instead, add the word exclusive to your seach term and put parenthesis around the term.  This is called an exact phrase match and will get you much better results.

For example:  if you are looking for life insurance leads, type in:

"exclusive life insurance leads"

This will get you much better and relevant results.  Try it out and see for yourself.

Where to Research an insurance lead company before you buy

This one is really simple. If you want to see if a company you are looking at to purchase leads from is worth a hoot, you can check out their reputation on the insurance agent forums. Before you go and start a new thread on these forums about "is lead company x any good?" or "has anyone ever used (or heard of) lead company x?" use their search function.

This will bring up every thread dealing with lead company x, and you can see what others think of them, good and bad, and will give you some kind of idea whether or not they are someone you would like to buy health insurance sales leads from.

Once you have searched the forum, then ask questions at the end of the thread. This bumps that thread to the top of the list and you will get answered faster that way. Many times new threads from new members either get "flamed" or ignored, or even worse are seen as someone to be preyed upon by lurking recruiters (although the forum moderators do a good job of keeping them out once they show themselves.)

There are a lot of experienced people there who will give you good advice, just do it the way I laid out there so that you get better results. And please do yourself a favor and participate on the forum. You will learn a lot of useful stuff that way.

Questions before you buy leads.

Okay, you've now found some companies that look reputable to by health insurance sales leads from.  Before you contact them, print these questions to ask them.

1. Do you sell leads to call centers?

2. Do you re-sell leads?

3. Do you sell to large agencies or individual agents?

4. Do up-bid on leads?

5. Do you generate leads from affiliates, and if so how well is this controlled?

6. Do you generate leads from CPA (cost per action) programs?  Are they incentivised?(meaning the lead gets something in return for filling out a form)

7. What is your return policy on bad leads? (the more liberal they are with this, the better.  This will save you a ton of money.)

If they can answer these questions to your satifaction, you should be good to go.
